You've all been great, but I'm finding blogspot a little too restrictive. I also feel like I need a fresh new start on my Japan blogging... so I'm pullin on up and movin on out (to the East Side?)
You can find my new blog (complete with pictures and podcast!) here:

Hope to see you there. Thanks again for all the comments, and I hope I can catch you at the new site!

The statues can sometimes be seen wearing tiny children's clothing or bibs, or with toys, put there by grieving parents to help their lost ones and hoping that Jizō would specially protect them. Sometimes the offerings are put there by parents to thank Jizō for saving their children from a serious illness. Jizō's features are commonly made more babylike to resemble the children he protects.
There you are. Bibs!
